While browsing when not being able to sleep, I came across this article. Since I got Bubba ('75-K5), I had been unhappy with the brightness of the dash lights. I tried this and let me tell you it does work. BTW, enamel paint I used is Dupli-Color Chrome. Autozone. Best $5 fix I have found yet.

I did this on my truck and its works! There is a plastic part, black on the outside and light blue on the backside.

This reflector...I'm confused as to what this thing looks like.

Is it the black thing made out of dixie-cup plastic that goes around all the gages? From the outside of the dash in, it goes gage bezel, clear plastic, then this black plastic reflector, then the gages, and then the creme colored gage housing. Right?

And he painted the inside of this reflector piece? Do I understand it right?

yep, you got it right paint the inside of the reflector. I was thinking of gluing some aluminum foil in there.

The paint is DUPLI-COLOR Chrome paint. It is used to touch up bumpers, etc. Make sure it is CHROME not silver. As the article says, silver does not work as well. I got it at AutoZone. About $5.00 per can. Put two or three coats on. Make sure it does not drip or run to the front (black) side. While your in there, clean your bulbs too. Makes a lot of difference.

    Replacement Bulbs.

The ones in mine were mixed, lol. Most were 914s, so that is what I used. It is nice to be able to turn down the intensity of the dash lights, rather than turn up and squint.

    Just Make Sure ....................

    /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Before you button it back up, turn on the lights and make sure they all work. In hindsight, for some reason my left turn blinker dash light is not working. Now I get to go back in again. Those slide in bulbs have a way of working loose real easy. Also, I had to take my radio out and guess I did not hook up the antenna all the way in when I reinstalled. . Not a big deal, just a PITA. If anyone has a gear indicator (the cheap ass string deal) they want to part with, let me know. Dang metallic string broke on mine. Or if any one knows where to get that metallic string, let me know.

    Thanks.

    BH.
