My truck (350/th350/np205/4:11's/35"claws)simply will not putt along a trail. At every little incline I am forced to get on the gas,and at every little decline the brake.I have most of the parts to do one of two things. The 203/205 doubler, or an sm465/205 combo.I like the auto since I steet drive the truck often.Does the doubler cure the problem I described or would the manual be the ultimate cure? If I did the doubler, would it keep up 1n 2nd or 3rd to the 465 in first on the trail, and would it still give me engine braking on hills?

If you just want to idle around, go manual. Hard to beat that low first, Doubler would help that low first even more, and more options....

Thanks for the info. How many rpms on the highway with the 38s? I want to go with bigger tires but don't want to blow up my 12 bolt.

If you want a low 1st, a 700r4 crawls pretty good. Just takes a lot of money to get them strong anough.

either way it is a fix.

with a 465/205 and 4.10's, your crawl will be 53:1

if you went doubler, your looking at 81:1 (with your present Th350)

i went doubler. but a buddy of mine runs a SM465/NP205/5.13's/44" TSL's and he crawls just about anything he wants to. of course he has a 402 BBC to help get the tires turning, but still gets it done.

if you have a mild powerplant, i'd be more on the side of the extra gearing, which is what i ahve done.
