    Do ALL 205\'s take 80-90w?

    Man this HAS to be one of them stupid Q's you just have to ask. I at least can justify...I've stumped a few.
    I drained the t-case...It spit oil about 2feet backwards. It looked and felt like old 10-30..then I left the plug out for a while while I was doing my rear disk. Well I got the axle on and the truck back to the ground. The t-350 was getting rebuilt so ALL that was there was the 205. It started dripping on the driveway (shocker i know) but it had a red hue to the oil? WTF? I heard that 208's take ATF? is there a seal I should replace prier to hooking the trans back in? It doesn't seem to have a way to get ATF into the 205 but I don't know [censored] yet...:D Please give me some SOLID STATS....
    I like this board.. I don't get flamed /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

    203 = 10W 30
    205 = 80W 90
    208 = Dexron Mercon

    The factory put ATF in some of the NP205s for better on road fuel mileage. Also if the seal between the trans and TC goes out then you'll pump atf from the trans into the TC.

    why in the hell would chev do the guessing game of fluid in the t-case? I will throw in 90w but it is stupid that one case takes ?10-30? :rolleyes: and then gear oil then ATF. Oh well maybee I should stick with toyota /forums/images/icons/smile.gif it's all 90w except the motor.

    The seal between the tranny and t-case is bad. I have had the problema few times. The last time I checked my oil in the t-case, I pulled out the filler plug and it started shooting out a large amount of ATF. That pissed me off, because the Tranny shop had done the last install on my tranny and t-case. So I had to pull the t-case and replace the two seals in the adapter.

    I checked my '77 Chevy truck service manual last night. Chevorlet says to use either 80w or 80w/90 GL5 gear oil in the SM465, NP205, and the front and rear diffs. Clymers' manual says use ATF in a NP205. So there it is right from Chevy in their own service manual use 80w/90 GL5 gear oil. This should end this now.
