I am selling a 350 out of a 85 3/4 ton suburban. Does anyone know if that would be a four bolt main or is the only way to pull the oil pan off to find out? Thanx guys and gals

    You call that dirty!?

Get the numbers off the back of the block up next to the head (driverside?) and you can look it up here http://grimsk5s.coloradok5.com/

At one time, someone told me that if the block and a small, square top bolt right above the timing chain casting on the passenger side, then that menat it was a four bolt main. I had one motor like that and it was, but never looked into it much more than that.

Anyone else have experience with this little bolt I am talking about?

I could be way off on this, but I'm pretty sure that all the 350s GM installed in trucks were 4-bolt. As long as it is an original or truck-sourced replacement, it should still be a fourbolt. My 78 blazer has a 4bolt, as did my dad's 1/2 ton. The sub is heavier, so I don't see why they would bother with a 2-bolt when they put 4-bolts in lighter trucks.

Yeah that use to be true till the crates came out. I have a crate that is 4 bolt main but that oil port is not there. According to Moretec my Crate is a 94 casting 4 bolt main Crate engine. I have two other motors that are 4 bolt that it is there but they are older blocks.

Check the last 3 #'s in the casting. It should be 010 for a four bolt main. Shoot me if I'm wrong.

I wont shoot you but if you are talking about the 3970010 block they came in both 2 and 4 bolt. I have 2 of them that are 4 bolt and 1 that is 2 bolt.

0010 blocks were also used in more than just 350's, also the DZ302 was a 0010 block. I think you`ll have to pull the pan.

    Just keepin it Canadian[IMG]

The little square headed 1/8" NPT plug above the water pump is a good indication of a 4 bolt, but not 100%. You can't tell from casting numbers. If it is the original motor from a 3/4 ton truck, there is a very strong chance that it is 4 bolt.
