I installed a ram air setup from ramairbox.com
It uses a 14x4 K&N and dual inlets.
You reuse the right side inlet on your core support, but have to install another one on the passenger side (part no. 14026361)

Both intake snorkel are baffled. You could aim a water hose right at them and the baffle will block the water. The air comes in around the sides of the baffle. If you don't see what I mean, go look on your truck at the inlet on the core support.

It came with it, but all it is is dryer vent - 4" diameter. I would rather have the black neoprene tubing, but this is working.
They sell a whole kit for out trucks, but the snorkel they give you is junk. GOtta buy the GM one.
Also, it comes with a paper filter, like a FRAM. I just bought the K&N for it.

I don't get a lot of that with my mall posing. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I sucked water into the first TPI engine that I had in my K5. The intake was mounted 42 inches off the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The engine was from an '87 Corvette, with 7,800 miles on it when the car was totalled. 200 miles later it was hydrolocked and rod number 7 peeked out of the block to say Hi. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif A new shortblock later and I had a TPI 383. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Click on kits, then on the more button. It will list the kit for 73-87.
My price was $208 shipped. I got an aluminum top and bottom so it was a little more $ than the chrome one they normally come with.
It uses a 14x4 filter. The kit comes with one, but it is a plain paper one (it's in my trash can now) and I put a 14x4 K&N one in.
Yeah, a complete kit. I could have done it with the snorkels they sent, but like I posted don't bother they suck. I bought a GM one and modified my core support for it.

i was hoping for the big hood scoops too (like on GTOs and the like). But they look cool, does that set up give you much more power (or am i again thinking of racing ram air...)

Old Folks? Harry... I'm not sure you qualify yet! /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif Doesn't that mean you also should remember Lassie, Sky King, Flicka, the 2 Eds (Mr & Sullivan?)... /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
10 point bonus question: Name of Sky Kings plane?

I could use one of those, open elements do not fair well in water holes, nor gas tanks with holes but thats another story. /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

I remember Lassie and both Mr. Ed's. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Never watched Sky King or Flicka though. I never watched much TV until I met my wife. She knows everything that's ever been broadcast! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Wouldn't it work if you used PVC pipe and connected them to the box and filter via the rubber coupler with clamps? Probably too heavy with all that PVC.

Yeah, that would be too heavy. Plus, it needs to be flexible for when the engine torque over a bit (not a big concern for my engine lol)
I plan to run the dryer hose they sent me until I find some neoprene hose with the reinforcing wire.

I keep looking at that pic Steve posted - With arms flailing "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!" /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
