I would REALLY advise against one, even though you weren't asking opinions on that.

The problem is that 1) the roof is not designed to channel water away when it does leak...factory moon/sun roofs in cars have special rails and channeling INSIDE the roof to prevent corrosion between the two panels, since the roof is NOT one layer 2) Sunroof companies (from what I was told by an installer) tend to go out of business within two years. Since the size of the sunroofs are not standard, nor are the designs, when the company goes under, and your gasket starts to fail (and it will, no question about it) the company will not be in business, and you can no longer get a gasket to reseal it. So now you end up paying MORE money to have a LARGER sunroof installed, because there is no standard size! Its a lose lose lose lose situation. Water dripping on your head, rusting from the inside out, high cost, and knowing it will have to be replaced later on. Talk to someone who has a 5-10 year old aftermarket sunroof and see how they like it.

I went through this exact same thing on my car, and I would have had to have another sunroof installed at considerable expense. I ended up getting rid of the car (that was one of the reasons) and getting another.

Besides, depending on your year, you already have a 75-100% removable roof anyways! : )

Mine works OK.....it's been on about 10 years and in the 2 years I have owned it no problems. Personally I wouldn't have put it in myself but I liked the truck so I bought it.

I don't have one but I plan to someday do it. I think it would be cool! I think it'd be expensive to have it put it. I'm going to see about a kit and if I can install one myself. As for leaking....I'll have a soft top in the back...leaks will be a common thing. Heck it leaks now with the hard top. Besides if you seal it really well and take your time I bet you could be leak free.....I have seen some Blazers around town with them and I like it. If it's something you like go for it! My motto is if you like it do it...if someone else doesn't think it looks good, then too bad it's my rig! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I was thinking of doing the same thing in mine untill I saw my top ripple when I was in a highly flexed position off roading. I guess the body twisted with the frame and all I heard when I straightened out was a loud pop when my roof went back to normal. What would have happened to the glass in a situation like that? And even if you get the full removable glass the frame of the sunroof would probably not tweak back as good as your roof. Then the glass won't fit and we are back to the leaking problem.

I guess what I'm trying to say is Don't do it!!!!!

As said above, I do have one, think you can see it on my site (click below). Had it pro-installed, new custom headliner, etc. over 3 years ago, at a cost of $250 I think, and never a leak and it does remove. I personally love them, had them in 3 of my rigs, never had a leaker..............

NEVER had a prob with mine and its 10+ years old. The latch was broke when I got it but hey if you get a truck with a broken rear spring, all four shocks seized, and a tailgate that was welded on crooked, that aint bad. I have a skyport one and they sealed the crap out of it. Come to think of it the roof is one of my only rust free areas. I like mine, its always fun having your buddy stick his head up there and act like a retard when you're crusing around for girls, lol.

I can understand your reasoning for items you listed here. Remeber you get what you pay for. I used to work at a shop installing them. The good manufacturers like Holandia and Webasto provide a subframe for the install. The frame is completely enclosed and has runoff tubes that are channeled down the front and rear interior pillars and out the factory drain holes on the bottom of the cab. If the cab is not equipped with these then we used to drill out the holes and spray the area with a rust inhibiting paint. We used massive amounts of silicone sealant to plug up all holes and mounting surfaces. Immediately after you lay down all silicone you have to screw down the outer seal. the seal acts like a gutter channel for water to enter the frame. The subframe was then completely sealed off from the outside. Using non-hardinging silicone will help in minor body flex situations but not massive ones like described in another post. To better protect yourself and your roof glass from shattering you should use a tint/clear film(optical quality) on the interior side. If it does shatter the little pieces dont get everywhere and it wont cut you.

Chevy trucks have a double ceiling if you flex your rig the first to bend is the interior one and it will ripple the outer surface.

This is my $.02 hope it helps. Ask any questions you want and I can try my best to answer them.

And how much does one of these well installed roofs cost? As well, are these companies that have been in business for a long time, and still are? I'm not attacking, I just want to see if there IS such a good thing as an aftermarket sun roof.

I think we got $450-600 for an installed roof. I only made $9 an hour so go fig. The Holandia / Webasto are the biggest suppliers of factory roofs and have been around for at least 20yrs( when we removed older roofs the holandia trademarks were on most of them). Blazers cant get anything but "pop tops" though. Although Holandia did have a TVS ( TILT, VENT, SLIDE: style that is on most Mitbishi Eclipse)that would fit. Try this http://www.vermeulenhollandia.com/ . They joined companies. So this is their new site.
