Does anybody know what these gear codes mean?

I'm replacing the front axle U-joints, and since I removed the front dif cover (10 bolt axle) to drain the oil, I found these codes in the ring:

    3 -G1 3984828 13 40 8-78

I was pretty sure I had 3.07 gears, but the "3 40" part made me doubt if I have really 3.40s. Any ideas?

the "13 40" means 13 pinion teeth and 40 ring teeth. Divide 40 by 13 and you come up with 3.08 ratio.

Thanks buddy. That's a relief because I will soon change to 3.73 gears and if these were in fact 3.40s, the difference would be minimal and I wouldn't get the power I was looking for.
