does anyone have a book on carb #\'s I need help please?

I got a 79 K5 with a 400c.i. the carb is a rochestor Q-jet. I tried to get a rebuild kit but the numbers don't match anyones books. the two numbers I got off of it were 17058940 this was on top of the carb second was 17061829 this was on the body on the back of the carb. A friend at work says this carb doesn't look like the one that came with a 79. Also has the hot air choke any help greatly needed. Thanks.

Well I checked out both sites and neither one had these numbers either. thanks for the help though. I'm beginning to wonder if someone just pieced this together from different years.[IMG] [IMG]

tje model numbers should be stamped on the tower right behind the throttle linkage. i'll check the rochester book by david roe for more info.

I looked on the sides where the stamp is in the books but there is nothing. the numders that I found were in little circles. the only other #'s I found was on the bottom plate 60598. I talked to a guy at the store he found a kit real close to one of the numbers he said it should work and is a common kit. hopefully it will work I've never rebuilt a q-jet before is it hard to do?

Neither number is listed in my book, Chevy V8 Engine Casting Numbers.
There are a unch of numbers very close, and they are from 79. They go in order, so my guess is the carb IS from 79, but that's all I can tell you about it.

Take photos or draw pictures as you go, there's a lot of parts in there.

I can tell you that my buddies 79 Suburban with a 400 has Q-Jet model number 17059226. Its the number STAMPED into the divers side of the carb main body, vertically. Right behind the secondary linkage.

Thanks everyone for the help[IMG]. I bought a kit for a 79 and it did fit. there were no numbers on the side they were ground off for some reason. but I took the old gaskets and carb in with me and found the right kit. It runs GREAT now. thanks again.[IMG][IMG]!!!!!!
