Hi, Just wondering how much more a Big block weights than a Small block. Also does a 400 cubic inch small block weight more than a 350 cubic inch small block? I am thinking of shedding pounds. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Also on a pipe dream how much does an aluminum 454 weight?

400 weighs about the same as the 350 since they are both SBC's.

The BBC weighs approximately in the range of 125 lbs. more than a SBC.

Are you talking fully dressed (complete fuel/ignition system to oil pan, headers/manifolds, water pump, fan, power steering pump, alternator, etc), half dressed (block, heads, intake only), or bare block (no intake, heads, etc., etc.)?

I would guess fully dresses since the real question would be the weight gain from having a small block to going to a big block. Right now I have a 400 small block that I always understood to be one of the lightest small blocks due to the larger bore (less metal on block) but am not certain about this assumption. I have a good 454 on the stand in the garage and was wondering what the total weight gain would be. Right now with my setup and my new soft top, I weigh in right at 5400 pounds with the 39.5".

Small blocks are just under 500lbs. I had a bare block 350 and 400 in my garage at the same time and the 400 was heavier. Where it all came from I'm not sure but there is a difference.

A BBC with Aluminum intake, water pump, and headers should be around the same weight as a stock SBC with cast iron manifolds etc.
