Hi all... When I bought my K5 last year, the transmission seems to shift different than I think it should. I'm hoping that there's nothing wrong with it, and that a previous owner has just added a shift kit in. Here's how it drives...
If I take off real slowly, it stays in first gear for a while before upshifting to second. If I take off fast, it doesn't stay in first as long, but when it shifts into second gear, it is a hard shift. I managed to get $1000 off the seller's price because of it, but now I want to find out that the tranny is okay and will last. Is there any way of finding out if a shift kit has been added without alot of disassembling?

No you cant reallt tell if it has a kit without removing the pan and valve body but the problems you describe could be a result of an improperly rigged throttle valve cable.By adjusting the cable it will change the shift characteristics so try to adjust it properly first and then maybe pull the pan and check out the internals!

If you end up taking it out for repair make sure that you rebuild it for 4x4 specs. I have heard that you do
not want the shift kit (Corvette parts) because it causes premature wear and early life failure in trucks.
