Doing something special for my dad...

    So Im 19 and still live at home. My dad is nice enough not to charge me rent. :D I do feel kinda bad so a month ago i opened up a savings account in his name. Every week im dropping in $50 . Not sure when ill tell him but its a retirment type deal. I think itll be a nice suprise...:D

    That's very cool. If you really want to make it grow, set up an account and invest the $$ in something consertative. Better interest than a bank and sill safe. I'll bet someone on here can recommend something.

    what he said, a CD, mutual fund, anything safe, and it will mature a lot quicke than in a savings account

    Once it reaches 500 im going to roll it into a cd, and continue to do so.

    I think im going to wait till febuary before i give it to him (his birthday is feb 11th)

    Idk fume... i owe 4000 on a pos jeep... 3500 on a dirtbike pay 225 a month for insurance... phone bills, food, clothes, internet....I think i need the help:rolleyes:

    WOW! that is really very cool. I may not know you other then on this board but I can tell you this "giving back" thing your doing is very honorable and shows you have respect for your dad, and that earns you an immense amount of respect from me in my book.

    also show your dad has tought you how to respect him and what you have, and the value of a dollar, it not easy raising kids these days. way to go kiddo, keep it up :waytogo:

    Check with a company called American Century.. they used to have mutual funds that had no minimum initial investment amount.. I'm sure other companies do as well.

    As was said, you stand to get a better return than with a bank, but you could also lose money too.. depends on your tolerance for risk..

    and kudos to you, for wanting to give back to your dad.

    Given his dad i dont think itll be a problem;)

    Thanks for the good words guys! Im definetly going to look around and try to get the best rate. My stepmom works at the bank so ill prolly sit down and talk to her about it for a while so i go the best route.:wink1:
