Don\'t EVER go to oil quickies

Alright, i don't go to quickie oil change places much. ONly when i don't have time to change the oil before going on a trip or sometimes in the middle of the winter when it's too dumb cold out to change it. I just changed my oil and front diff fluid this week. I checked all my fluids but couldn't get my transfer case fill/check plug off...i've never personally checked it since i've owned the truck...it's only been open at the quickie joint. Well i decided to take it back to that place to have them take the plug off and check it for me...and to put it back on a little looser this time..i also had them grease the truck too....i didn't get to that, had a few...ah...problems w/the grease gun. Anyway i heard the guy down below grumping and ughing away at that plug...next thing i hear him say is..."we don't have any of these in stock do we?". I was just waiting for them to tell me they broke something. Another guy comes around and informs me that they did not remove it, it's stripped, and they suggested i go to the dealership..........I was sooooo mad i could even say anything.....I was able to over look the fact that they had previously stripped my oil pan plug....but now my transfer case plug is stripped because those d!psh!ts over tightened it.........THAT'S IT....i'm never going back EVER...okay...done venting about stupid teenager "mechanics" thanx

I would make them pay for it! If that ever happened to me, someone would be paying dearly.

I have a friend that went to one of those quickie places and they forgot to put the differential plug back in .... needless to say he had a huge mess on his hands next time he found the local mudhole ..... can you say pi**ed off ?
    I think you can.
Those places only drain out a quart or two when they do an oil change too....what a rip .

Sorry to say it but I have one thats worse then that. While I was working at a dealership a guy brought in his new(5000 miles) Trooper because it was making a strange noise. Another machanic pulled the tranny pan off and it looked good so he checked the transfer case and it was bone dry. He pulls it out and and says "someone's going to be pissed". We go over to it and take a look and all the gears are blue. He takes a hammer and taps a gear and it just shatters into little pieces. To make a long story short he went to Jiffy lube or Grease monkey to get his first service done and they never refilled the t-case. I went to court and they brought in an expert that said that there is no way he could have drivin it 500 miles with out fluid. The machanic who found the problem couldn't testify in court because he killed himself about two weeks earlyer. The Trooper owner ate a 3000 tranny bill because of some pothead with a forth grade education forgot to fill his transfer case. Case and point I took my pickup to a shop so that they could find a vaccuum leak that I couldn't. I go to pick it up and the two KC's on the rollbar look bent. I climb up and one is bent and the other is broken. I ask the guy what's the deal with my lights. He says he accidently bent them pulling it into a bay. I tell him no, one bent and one's broken. He says I thought they were just bent. I get my pickup back Monday. See what bad crack will do.

I got one, too. I had an '86 CJ7 in late '85 (brand new). i got the first service done at Grease Monkey at 3000 miles. I then headed for the mountians for the day. When I got back from a nice drive (no wheelin'), I had a bad noise. There was NO oil in the motor. The monkeys said they would re-do the oil change for me. They ended up re-doing the MOTOR for me, to the tune of $2800.
Don't let them get away with that crap!

I want to b*tch about bad mechanices too!! I get screwed over because I'm a 17 y/o girl....why would I know what I'm talking about? I had a VW Golf, and the oil pump went out. I took it to the local foreign car "specialist." He calls back 30min later and says he's done, it was just the oil pressure switch. (And he overcharged me for that! those don't cost $30) Well, it didn't make it home, no oil pressure, threw a rod. It's been sitting in front of his shop since last Sept. No word from him....He won't return my calls....I think he knows he screwed up and doesn't want to deal with me....hehe...I think I should call the Better Business Bureau or something....he owes me an engine, I'd say. I'm done now :)

I work with a guy (another helicopter mech) who got screwed by a Jiffy Lube. They did the "full check and service" and, among other little things, forgot to tighten the drain plug on his 4-speed. He did LOOK underneath to scope things out, but didn't get "touchy-feely" with everything. 3 weeks later, his tranny wouldn't shift out of 3rd. Investigation revealed no drain plug present, hence no oil present. 4 months, lots of letters and threats, and a lawyer later, they settled out-of-court for $500. Barely paid the lawyer off. Bottom line:

I had a drain plug stripped out once in a pontiac 6000. They put a different kind of plug in then I traded it in for my 80 K5. Turned out to be a good thing after all. I take my company van to valvoline instant oil change only because we have a charge account with them and I don't have time to leave it anywhere. I also don't get paid to do it myself. I would never ever take one of my vehicles there.

My problem with the quickie lubes it that they can not seem to comprehend that some vehicles require more that 5 quarts of oil. The last time my wife took our Dodge 2500 with a Cummins motor in, it came back with 5 not 10 quarts.

They managed to bill for all 10.
