Does NY do a visual inspection on the system, or do they just hook you up to the machine and run the test. If they visually inspect you may be screwed. One thing I have seen done is to gut out the Cat and leave it in. Don't they sell 95 octain fuel in NY?, If so run that for a few days prior to your inspection it will help some.

Hey man!! Nice to see someone so close!!! I'm from Bath, NY. They are usually pretty tricky about those inspections. They don't put a hose on them but they do a visual check to see if every thing is there.

You guys should move to Kansas. We don't have any major lift laws and don't have ANY vehicle inspections. If you have a hookup at an exhaust shop, your dreams can come true.

im from nyc and its impossible to pass the new emmisions test without cats. with a new 350, high performance ignition, all stock emmissions stuff and rebuit carb i dont come much bellow the limits. one solution if to get cats that have their own air lines so you can get away with the headers

Re: Don\'t Turn Me In Please..... Emmisions Stuff...

When I bought my K5 it came without cats on the dual setup. What I do is I don't get the $7.50 basic inspection, I get the $20 Premium inspection. In my state the basic inspection is where they check everything and you might flunk. The Premium inspection is where they check your VIN and send you on your way. I would think that my state is not the only state where you can get that done. Ask around. Or you can just move to Kansas. You get one inspection when you first register your vehicle and that's it. That's why there are so many junkers there. You can spot one of these from way off. You can tell it's from Kansas without seeing the license plates.

I am in Livingston county NY and my K5 was inspected with headers,4' flex pipe, and cherry bombs. I thought emissions inspects were just in NYC area.

Hey Phil, thanks for the glowing review of KS vehicles. So I take it that MO has emission testing? BTW, I've stopped a few vehicles that I first saw from the cloud of smoke caused from oil burning. That's just no called for.

Didn't mean to get ya upset. I was talking about all those major rustbuckets that drag on the ground that come from Wyandotte County. I'm sure you can agree that KCK is not the gem of Kansas.

Naw, I'm not upset. I know what you mean, just givin' you a little trash. Parts of KCK I never care to visit. Actually kinda funny to hear you dog on Wyandotte County.

I like Kansas, I just don't care much for Wyandotte or Johnson counties.

But what can I say for myself. I live in Jackson County, Missouri.

This site has some converter replacement info on it.http://www.a-1performance.com/super_converter/installation.htm I know there are no converter police cruising around and it probably would only get caught at a state inspection, and then maybe only if the inspecter was sharp. It doesn't look like there are many options if you are concerned with being legal. I was planning a dual cat/dual exhaust on the '89. It's my daily driver, so it has to pass inspection, and I am to lazy to put it back stock for inspection and change back after inspection. If you don't care about a legal installation, please don't post calling me a jerk for posting this. I don't care how anybody decides to run their truck, I'm just posting for general info.
