Anybody drag race?(I mean at a track) Does anyone go to Thompson Drag Raceway in Thompson, OH???

Ok, this was the first itme ever I went down the strip with my PGT(actually never went down the strip at all before unless I was riding with someone.

Here is an overview of my car:
1994 PGT, 5spd, ACT Stage IIw/45K miles, Greddyw/75K miles, Homemade intake(fresh cheapo paper filter). The plugs have about 8K on them(NGK), the cam cover gaskets are leaking pretty good in about 4 cylinders, the wires have about 70K on them(NGK), I have a bad rear )2 Sensor that has been bad for about 3 years so the cat is probably plugged pretty good(hence the sulfur smell).. Tires are Dunlop SP5000s with about 30K on them and the struts and springs are stock(weak)... I also have a vacuum leak that I cant find...
There is 110K mile on my car and i had fresh Mobil 1(10/30), with 1/2 tank of gas(94 oct). The spare and jack were still in it and I weigh about 240lbs...
My car has A/C, but not ABS...

    The Track:
Thompson Drag Raceway in Thompson, OH. Elavation - 1150 to 1200ft
You race slightly uphill and slow down downhill.. Not sure why this is. Sean Morgan has raced at this track I believe..
Temps: started out around 75* and then went up around 4pm to 80*+ and then went down some as the sun went down.

    The launch:
I launched at about 2K- 2500 RPMs and shifted at about 6800... I was spinning a little off the start, but got a little better here and there. Shifting into second I would spin alittle also, but no spin other than that. At the end of the quarter I was in third gear at about 7K+ rpm..

    The times:

    Run# - reaction - 60ft. - MPH - ET
    1 .801 - 2.451 - 86.83 - 16.370
    2 .464 - 2.552 - 86.83 - 16.327
    3 .783 - 2.461 - 85.53 - 16.309
    4 .658 - 2.395 - 87.09 - 16.109
    5 .468 - 2.453 - 87.02 - 16.121
    6 .610 - 2.408 - 82.40 - 16.158
    7 .567 - 2.331 - 87.30 - 16.018
    8 .595 - 2.310 - 84.86 - 16.018
    9 .611 - 2.371 - 86.73 - 15.973
    10 .892 - 2.322 - 87.06 - 15.989

Runs #7 and #8 I let off right before the end hoping the other person would break out, which they did..

So what do you all think, any comments?

I'd like to take our IROC to the drag strip here just to see what it'll do, but that's a little ways off.

    Re: Drag Racing

Come on up to Thompson! LOL.. I didn't like Bracket racing at first, but know I understand it more and really like it.. At first I didn't like how you had dial ins and what not. I thought heads up racing was more fun. But now i realize that bracket is heads up, but if you are slower you get a head start to make it fair! I beat a mid to late 70's Duster/Demon/Dart in my last round, he was running mid to high 12's..... Man, I was sweatin on that run! LOL

I was wondering what went on with #7 and #8...yer reaction time and 60' times were the best but didn't generate a low ET...

    Re: Drag Racing

Ya, #8 I was runnin a new chevy ext cab fullsize.... He got the head start since he was slower and I caught him at the end, but I let off hoping he would break out which he did... Number 9, i was runnign a mid 70's Dart/Demon/Duster. Did the same with him.... He broke out also.

Now that i look at it, sorry, that was race 8 and 9 that I did that. #7 was a time trial I think I spun more in 2nd that time...

I don't know how close you are to Mission B.C., but I got a buddy up there on a FederalMugul dragster team. He's the engine guy on the "Joker's Wild" team. It's a black rail, on alchol. Sweet pain job. Last time they were up there they eather set or came very close to setting a -world- record (I think they beat the world record)- anyway, check it out if it's close.

    Re: Drag Racing

Mission is a cool track...a racers dream. Its at sea level (or damn close) our weather is usually cool and its fairly new. It should be the track to set records on...
The best part is that its only about 45 minutes away.

My wife has been bugging me to go for a while now...

    Re: Drag Racing

    You should go, dude!

I goofed, The car is started on alchol and runs on nitro. I remember my buddy saying the engine got really p!ssed off when the changed it over to the nitro. Poping threw the exhaust, because of track conditions. (sea level and cool- good air)
I had the opritunity to watch them build it, that car is a hole-nother animal. They can't run electric engine controls so it's run on compressed air and timers, don't even ask how the clutch works (!??!??)
It's a black car with purpleish and teal stripes on the side, and a goast checker board down the center.

He also told me about the Canadians and the "aboot" thing. Last time he was there, was also aboot the same time you (Rene) went to Texas.

    Re: Drag Racing

OK Eric...didya ever actually hear me say "aboot"? or "eh"?

I gotta check the Mission sched.... I'm kinda looking for some Canada Day long weekend fun, and I'm sure something is going on there!

On a similar subject...we have quite a few guys from our parent company up in our shop from time to time. There is one guy who is just merciless aboot buggin some of them aboot their Texas accents...
Actually there's almost nothin funnier than a Texan trying to imitate a Canadian accent[IMG][IMG]. Everyone is pretty good natured aboot it though, eh!

Here in Denver we race at Bandimere Speedway. The elevation is over 5800 ft so our times usually 1 second slower than compared to a sea level track. I just know the times in my head but I do have time slips with the trap speeds somewhere.

    99 Pontiac GTP
3" pulley, reprogrammed PCM, exhaust, CAI, stat, FPR and some other goodies
    1/4 mile Time: 14.4
    Sealevel correction: 13.4

    92 GMC Typhoon
ATR 935cfm turbo, 33 lb injectors, FPR, CAI, ATR intercooler, exhaust. along with some other go-fast stuff.
    1/4 mile Time: 13.6
    Sealevel Correction: 12.6

The Typhoon will be getting some ported heads with 2.02 valves and the stock 4.3 will be rebuilt soon plus headers will be added so the time should be in the low 13's possibly high 12's after those mods. The Grand Prix will also be getting headers soon.

My wife and I bought the Typhoon with the current mods so I'm not sure what it ran stock. At sealevel, stock Syclones will run from 13.4 to 14.3 in the 1/4 mile, and Typhoons will run from 13.8 to 14.7, depending on the day's weather and the tuning of the vehicle. 0-60 Times for the Syclone and Typhoon vary from 5.0 to 5.5 seconds. The Typhoon weighs a couple hundred lbs more thus the slower times. There's a couple videos on off-road.com/chevy with a few Syclones running 10's. Now thats fast! The AWD makes them tough to beat on the street. With a 5psi launch, it almost jumps from the start.

Bandimere Speedway, Man that brings back memories. I gotta tell you guys a story (when I have a bit more time) It involves all the H.S. auto classes on a field trip to Bandimere, and a car chase- it made the front page news the next day!
