OK...a few weeks ago, I installed a zerk fitting on my upper balljoint that wasn't put on when it would have been easy...with the truck sitting on level gound, I could turn the front axleshafts by hand. Transfer case was in 2HI, hubs were unlocked. I looked under there yesterday, and the other grease fitting had gotten ripped off, so i installed it, but I couldn't turn the axleshafts by hand anymore, unless I jacked up that side so the tire was off the ground. Same conditions, 2HI, hubs unlocked....anyone know why?

When I did my ball joints I greased the upper then took out the zerk and screwed a plug into the hole.It didnt look like there was enough room on mine for the zerk with the axle installed.

All work and no beer makes Frizz a dull boy

Yeah, the shop that did the balljoints([IMG]) put some in that were too long, and they got sheared off eventually. I got some shorter ones, and they clear, but I can't actually see any space between the yoke and the zerk...but they are still there...

I ran into the same problem, and went to my local driveshaft rebuilder who gave me two flush mount zerk fittings to fit. The drawback was I had to pull the hubs, rotors, etc. to pull the axles out in order to remove the broken pieces and put the flushmount fittings (the kind you use a needle tip grease gun for) in. It's a little tricky, but if I rotate the axles right, I can get the needle tip up to the zerk fitting (I will admit that I do get grease everywhere, but eventually I see it starting to ooze out the balljoint boot). I would not let it go, as you go down the road in rain or snow, water will be forced up in there and you will have problems (maybe not right away, but alot sooner than if you had even just a plug in there), and if you cross streams............

Does anyone know why my axles don't turn now?
