Well, for some reason, my truck has started to make a nasty vibe. It started last night, then went away. my friend's dad took it out and said something is wrong with either the driveshaft or the diff. We took a look at the driveshaft Wednesday, and greased the U-joints. he said they were fine then. I tried wiggling the driveshaft after I got home, well, barely got home. It didn't wiggle at all. The pinion on the 10 bolt rear was kinda loose, so we tightened it up while we were looking at the driveshaft Wednesday, barely. So I'm guessing something is wrong with the 10 bolt, besides the fact it's a 10 bolt. The vibration happens every once and a while.. but tonight getting home was really bad.. if I went over 10MPH, it would vibrate like it was riding on a washboard. The truck was bouncing everywhere, and I coulda swore I heard a ticking kinda noise. Any idea as to what could be wrong? I've gone through bad u-joints before, but it wasn't this bad.

i bet that if you take the diff cover off, you will see the problem. my 10 bolt had all kinds off teeth stripped off of it, and it only vibrated a little. i am guessing you have some R&P issues.. good luck!!

I had a similar vibe on my 90 a few years ago, then the rim and tire fell off, (alot of sparks, but the vibe stopped). [IMG] Check and make sure the lug nuts are on all the way, sometimes they work loose or the neighborhood kids get creative. Also check and make sure the frontend (balljoints etc) are up to snuff, sometimes the vibrations come from other than where you "feel" them to be.

Why do people keep calling it a Bronco!!!!! [IMG]

When that happened to me I took my 10 bolt cover off and found no less than a half dozen teeth stuck to the magnet on the cover.

I speak from experience when I say that just because a u-joint looks ok, it doesn't mean it is. I had to replace my rear u-joint about 3 months ago- it took me a couple of days to figure out that it was bad because no matter how hard I twisted and tugged on it, it wouldn't budge.

Remember that a seized u-joint is just as bad as a loose u-joint- the problem is that a seized one won't look or feel like it needs replacing when you;re under the truck.

Did you pull out the driveshaft? That is the only real way to see if the u-jt's are good, well unless they are totally wasted. I agree if the vibe is starting that low it would be time to crack open the rear diff and see what ya got.

Yeah, we took out the driveshaft and everything was fine. We got the truck up on a lift today and adjusted the rear brakes.. it's better, but I still feel a small vibe after a little while of driving, along with a thunking noise and vibe if I make a left turn every once and a while after the truck has been on the road for a bit. My buddy says the drums are probably ovalled out due to wear.. but I don't understand why it vibrates whenthe truck is cruising, and why it makes that thunking noise. any other ideas? I don't think it's the R&P, cuz it'd be doing it all the time.. this usually only happens after the tuck has been driven around for a while..

Thunking?? Hmm... just by chance have you pulled the axle out to check for a bad wheel bearing? That would give you a vibe that gets worse when turnig a direction. This would give you a chance to driain out the diff and look for metal... visually inspect the spider gears and what not.

you may have some bad bearings in the rear end. Mine started howling when I had been driving for a while, then got to where they did it almost immediately.
