When My 90 K5 350 tbi is cold, When it starts, it makes a grinding type noise for a couple of seconds. It seems to go away but at an idle it softly phases in and out for a couple of seconds at a time. It is sparatic and has no pattern. My oil presure reads just under 30 PSI in the dash. Anybody feild this one.

I'm not too sure on what the clicking noises are... might be a starter not fully disengaging? But I do know that if dry starting is the problem, you could try changing your oil and putting in 4 quarts of your usual oil and 1 quart of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. This stuff is nice and thick, helps eliminate dry starts, and helps out compression. I've used it in both of the vehicles I've owned, and I know our city DPS uses it in all of their trucks and heavy equipment too.

How cold are we talking here ?
If its not getting oil to the right places durning start-up, you might look into a Pre-Oiler, there $$$$
but can make an engine last forever !

Check your power steering fluid. If its low it can cause a sound like that. Just a thought.

Check your tranny fluid too. Could be the torque convertor clutches making the noise as the fluid hasn't warmed up yet.
