Wireless is slow. I'd never trade my cat 5 network.

So you're gettign 10 (or possibly 100) MBPS, but that's just your internal network speed. Your internet speed is still limited by your connection. Even if you're on cable you'll not be getting more than 5.

He's using a 802.11b wireless router and I am too. They have a theroetical throughput of 11MBPS, but in reality I never see over 5.

So basically, his wireless connection is easily as fast as his internet coinenction.

The only tme you'd need a better wireless connection is if you do a LOT of intranetwork traffic, which most people including myself don't do.

I have my wife's laptop wireless and I have the kids's computer wireless. It is fantastic to keep the clutter down and I didn't have to run cable anywhere. My own computer is networked by 100 MBPS cat 6 cable, and I get only slightly lower pings and slightly higher throughput.

    Wireless is here to stay.

FYI - make sure to set security settings on your network. Turn off SSID broadcasting and use a 128 bit WEP key (or better if your router and adaptor support it.)

    Take it easy.

    TrcksR4ME,

which wireless brand do you have? i got the linksys wireless b. i heard a lot of bad comments about it but it had to do with the firmware version. i tested it a bit more last night. i downloaded an 80Meg software development kit while listening to internet radio.

no losses, no problems, all went well from one end to the house to the other, downstairs and upstairs, front porch and back yard. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also got a chance to setup the security settings, highly recommend it.

    ARQ.
