Would a Duramax 6600 fit in an 89 Jimmy fullsize?
Would it also accept a 700r-4 tranny?

    Thanks for the help.

You could probably make it fit, but don't stick a 700R4 behind it. GM went to the Allison tranny for that torque monster for a reason! [IMG]

ROTFL, OH YA. The Durmax sure would scatter a 700-R. I don't think even the BEST built 700 would withstand those torque levels for very long. GM didn't even screw around with the 4L80-E, right to the ALLISON, no problemo!

Real trucks don't have spark plugs!

The 6600 will bolt up to the 700r4 but you would need a manul valve body and straight cut gears, and a lot of luck. LOL
During GM's duramax testing they ran the 6600 in front of 4l80e's. It is also rumored that when the duramax burbs arive the will be in front of 4l80e's and slightly de-tuned. The allison wont fit in the new burb trany tunnel with out a major boddy lift. I dont know if anyone knows if the 6600/allison will fit in a k5 yet. In 4 or 5 years when there are more in the junk yard I bet it will be popular but expensive.

You mean to tell me that I just shelled out $42K for a truck that is going to end up with its engine and tranny in the bone yard in 4-5 years??? I don't see it happening- unless of course, someone totals it, the engine and tranny were built to last longer than the engines they replaced- I sure hope I can get at least 10-15 outta it before I think about getting rid of it! After all, the K5's is 16 years old, and though its getting tired, its not heading to the yard yet.......

    Brandy,
Take it easy, you know the only way your D/A will go to the bone yard is if someone runs a light.

Its pretty all right- one thing I had to keep telling myself after I saw the sticker price-
if it rides like a Cadi, and handles like a Cadi, and I can sleep in it like a Cadi, I guess I gotta pay for it like its a cadi! I really can not say enough about this truck- I may have talked my FIL into getting one-

For those of you who thought I was serious about my reply and my truck going to a bone yard- I was as serious about it as the original poster!! though it would be nice for one to end up there, the seats would be great for the K5!
