DVD+R/W discs can be erased and then recorded over again. I don't know if the standalone players have the ability to do it, but the DVD recorder/players in my PC can.

If you really watch for the sales in the Sunday paper, you can find regular DVD+R (One use) discs for about 15 cents each, so why bother to erase 'em?
