    Hey Guys,

Just a quick note to speak the evils of the EGR. I was driving around last weekend, and noticed that the truck was idiling roughly. Then it just up and died at most stops. I pulled the fuel filter and replaced it. Still problems. I knew that the fuel pump was okay, so I plugged the EGR valve. Sure enough, it started to idle just fine, and quit dying at stops. It even took care of the stumbling from a stop that I've had forever. Whenever I'd step on the gas, I would get an initial stumble but then it'd catch and run fine. I just figured it was b/c my carb needed rebuilding. Now I know that when I get the $ I'll need to replace the EGR and run a clean rig, but for now, I'm SO GLAD that I was too poor to buy a computerized rig. Problems? Just unplug the offender and go!

Was the vavle sticking open, then? Did you try to pull it out and clean the junk out?

Woodpecker.................What year do you have. I have an Extra EGR valve that fits on my 1989 GMC Jimmy with the 5.7 TBI 350. If you are interested in it you can have it for a little $$$$$$$$$$. It is only a couple of weeks old, and is an original GM part #. Let me know, as these sell for around $60.00. Talk to you later.

    Hey TKJimmy,

My Blazer is an '86, 305. Would that valve fit my manifold, etc? If so, what kind of cash are you talking about?

    Thanks!

I had to do that on my 88 Jimmy. It would turn on the idiot lite very periodically but it would run fine and I never replaced it and sold it like that. That was the only problem with plugging it. It had a hole in the diaphragm. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Sounds like the EGR is fine but there is a control problem. EGR is only supose to come on at about 1500 RPM. It should be off at idle because of the exact problem you had. If you have vac running to the EGR when cold or when at idle something is wrong and it isn't the EGR. Now I don't thing the problem is a broken diaphram in the EGR. If it was broken it would high idle not die.

I just started having that problem too. When I hit the gas from stopped, she bogs a little then runs fine.

There are 3 different types of EGR Valves, and on the later computer controlled systems, there is also a Vac. seloniod that operates it. My EGR went out, and my truck would throw a 32 code. I looked it up,and replaced the EGR & Seloniod. No more code, but now the truck runs at 500 rpm more then it did prior to the replacement. It idles at about 1000 rpms warm, cold anytime. The TBI doesn't have a idle screw, so I'm a little lost.

he he! I have an old blazer and I'm getting the nifty handy dandy plate that is made to cover the hole that the EGR valve leaves when taken off!

Had the same (rough idle, stumbling from a stop, stalling) problem on mine. Replaced the EGR valve & solenoid twice, and it ran fine for a couple of months, then started again. Third time I cleaned up the "first" replacement valve (it had clogged slightly open with carbon), put it back in, plugged the vacum line from solenoid to valve, and now get an occasional "32" on the idiot lite but the truck runs fine and gets 19 mpg.

I just made a plate to bolt onto where my EGR bolts to. No more problem.

I did that on another truck i had but my metal fabrication techniques are short of perfect so this time I'm paying for it. It was only 10 bucks.
