hey all, im considering building my own 350 for my 74. ive never done any engine work like this, and im looking for any and all input pertaining to sb chevys. would i be better served getting a summit crate? i like the idea of building my own, knowing where i stand with it. im not looking for a high horse drag engine, i want torque. i drive 50 highway miles a day also, so mileage is a concern.

    Bastard,

Check out the engines at www.scoggindickey.com.

They have a deal on brand new, not rebuilt Chevy built 4 bolt main 350's complete with heads, crank etc, just ad intake, ignition etc for about $1300.
That also includes a 36 month, 50,000 mile chevy warranty.
I think the engine is rated at about 250-260 horses.
A friend of mine got one of these a couple of years ago for a 64 chevy pickup and it is still as strong as the day we put it in.

    Have fun.
