Anything special about these block castings #397xxxxx? Am told they are a high nickle content casting, but what does that really mean? Thanks.

like 3970010? that is a common two piece rear main seal 350, or 327. depending on what year it is and where it was built it could have been either. they are typically high nickle, and are good blocks, mostly 4 bolt mains. i have built about 5 motors with that casting # series, and never had any problems with them.

Yes, that's it. 4 bolt main 350. Picked it up yesterday. Engine has never been rebuilt. Has been to the machine shop and magnafluxed. All kosher. Thanks.
