Can someone help de-code this engine Number? V0627FJL is stamped at the front near the passenger side head. It was represented to me as a crate engine, 350, originally bought in '95 or '96. Is this the number I need to know is there another one somewhere. Thanks

I think you'll need to find more numbers. Check out http://www.chevymania.com for a list of numbers. That will give you a better idea of what kind of numbers to look for. The block numbers are located on the rear of the block, near the firewall and the oil pressure sending unit. I don't know if that's for all years, though.

    Hope this helps.

The book that I have doesn't list any suffix codes for crate motors. I have never seen a reference that includes replacement motors. V = made in Flint, MI
0627 = assembled on June 27. You could tell a little more from date codes on the castings, at least the year.

Thanks, I'll look for more numbers tonight. Wish I could find out what the "FJL" suffix means. Doesn't that usually tell the application?

Yes, the FJL suffix tells the application. Just not listed in my reference.
