I have just ordered my new goodwrench motor for my Blazer. I am wondering about initial startup procedures. My main question is on oiling. Is there a way for me to get some oil running through the motor before I start it? Just getting the oil pump to turn over without the motor running? Since the motor is brand new I am thinking that it would be good to have it pre-oiled.

I have been trying to find a decent engine startup guide on the net but haven't come up with anything yet. Thanks for the info

you can turn the engine over by hand with a breaker bar and socket on the crank pulley..

turning the motor over by hand will not do anything, it will not spin the oil pump fast enough to get oil everywhere it needs to be, therefore what you need is an oil pump primer, there are specail tools for this, but yuo can make one out of and old distributor, just take the cam gear off, and pull the top of the distrib off, and put it in a cordless drill and spin it till you get oil pressure in the guage, then its primed and ready to go. hope this helps

Just get an oil pump priming rod. It attaches to a hand drill, you pull the distributor out and stick the ron in there and let 'er rip with the drill for a little while. It gets oil all through the engine.

get or make an oil pump primer(autozone rents them for free).while your priming the pump with a drill, have someone slowly turn the engine over with a socket on the crankshaft bolt, this allows the bearings to be completely oiled before startup.
