Could I run my engine without the transmission? I'd have the flyweel on of course but i don't have the right bellhousing and I want to run my 440.

nothing wrong with breaking in a cam without the trans there. Many people fab engine stands with gauges to break in motors. Sooner or later I will build one... if nothing else just cause its cool to have a motor sitting in the middle of the shop with no car, rumbling away.

I once fired up an Olds 455 on a pallet for a few minutes so the potential buyer could hear it. Hooked up some short pipes and mufflers...but no tranny or anything else.

Being 18 at the time I couldn't resist blipping the throttle...and the damn thing almost went over on it's side.

yep, what they said. in fact, when i bought my tranny, the instructions say to keep the torque converter unbolted from the flywheel if you need to break in the cam. this was because you need to put the motor under load to test fluid pressure in trans. i wouldnt be worried about it.

if your running it inside the truck,i would fab something to bolt to the back of the motor(bellhousing boltholes) i dont think an engine will balance on the motormounts alone.

hey theres a guy who has a personal yard here in town he has been buying and saving up old 60s chryslers for years, probably ever since the 60s, in all different conditions and completness, he never does anything with them cept let them rot in the yard, you should come here and have field day theyre gonna go to waste one day anyways, i go by there all the time and see them, nothing special, old cudas and verts and i dunno, dont care for them, dunno what any of them are, i coldnt recognize a duster from a newport or a charger, i just know the names,
