I am getting a full 3" single pipe exhaust system fabricated and installed next week including the headers/y-pipe/catalytic conv/ & flowmaster muffler. The only parts they have to fabricate are the Y-pipe, and the 3" tubing everything else is going to be off the shelf. Basically I have 2 questions. 1. Will it be a major problem to run the 3 " pipe with headers on a semi-stock 305 for now until I get my new 330 HO Crate motor?( I am referring mainly to back presure or lack of.) 2. I am assuming that I will need new ignition wires/cables to fit the new headers? What type or kind do you guys recomend? Taylor MSD etc? Thanks guys!

I do have an edelbroch performer intake with a performer carb for the moment installed and working fine.

    Re: exhaust question

You shouldn't NEED a different ignition system, but I do like Taylor wires. Why the single exhaust system instead or a duel exhaust ???

    I think you'll be fine with 3".

    Re: exhaust question

Basically it came down to which I liked the most with the dual 2.5" vs the single 3". I am also trying to keep things relatively simple so I went with the larger single pipe vs the smaller duel. I had the spark plug wire question, because I am currently running stock accell wires with the stock manifolds. I was just wondering if I needed another excuse to upgrade the wires too while I was at it due to the new headers. Thanks again guys.

The one thing that I wish I had done at the time I installed my headers was to get a great set of plug wire holders. I fried a couple in the first couple of weeks.... Just an FYI!

I just got my single 2-1/2 done in stainless (same price as regular, only enough for single) The speed shop got me a flowmaster 40 series instead of a 50 and its way too loud for a daily driver. Just my humble opinion.

You all must get full lenght 3" exhaust. I went with the Flowmaster 40 series muffler(I like the noise!) It actually feels like the old 305 has some power again. The headers help a lot too I think vs the stock manifolds. Anyone ever coated/painted their exhaust pipes or headers with high temp paint to prevent corrosion from salt or snow? I was thinking of getting some 1200 degree Rustoleum paint. Anyone done this?

I've done the rustoleum high temp coating, it will flake after a couple of days.

Thanks! That's what I wanted to know. I'll spend my money on something more useful then, like a new Sunpro Tach or soemthing.
