The F-117 has a special paint on it. Good photo-chop. Unless it was a temp topcoat for an airsow...

Yeah, there is no way they would ever use a regular paint on over the special paint. The special paint absorbs radar waves and helps make it stealth. That is either a chop or some sort of powder temp paint.

Either way, it's cool as hell. :D

If that's a chop they did a great job. It is a cool pic either way.

    Not A Chop!

It's temporary, but it is real. NO CHOP.

Airliners.net has a really stringent screening process on submitted photos; they would not post a "chopped" photo. I'm a member there as well; one of their forums is solely for submitting photographers to discuss their pics. Lots of these photographers are professionals, and their Airliners.net photos are like their "portfolio".

Here's the page with the explanation:

That paint job was real. That was the first Full Scale Development F-117 (Tail 080) we built in 1980. The aircraft was being retired thus the special paint job for the Edwards Air Show. It has since become a pole-model like a few others.

OOps..I errored. I checked at work today. That aircraft was tail 082, the third of 5 FSD aircraft. The 5th one (085) crashed on takeoff and is now a pole model on display at work. We did have a few painted grey also.

It wasnt uncommon for us to paint different designs or information on them for changing of command ceremonies. All mission ready ones are black even though the dark grey ones were harder to visually see.
