ok, just purchased through the mail a used factory original tach dash.(obviously without seeing it first)- the dash housing is busted to hell and unserviceable. also pigtail wiring harness is cut. 1st question, in all the resto catalogs i find, replacement tach wiring harnsses stop at 74', will it work for my 79' ? 2nd question, will my present (current) dash housing work with a swap of the print board, guages, and face shield (the boughten one has a nasty scratch). is this going to be an easy install, is there any other considerations to worry about ? should i refer to a service manual to install this, are the wires easy to i.d. ? or should i have it professionaly installed to make sure everything is correct ? any and all info will surely and greatly be appreciated !

The tach you bought should work fine with your truck, I would not worry about the harness. Just run a wire from your distributor tach connection and if you swap the printed circuit board that sould give you power to the tach. If you need further wiring info, I could look it up or scan a section of the wiring diagram for you when I get home. My home email is wmark17@qwest.net

MJ knows how to rewire for the factory dash. I think he has diagrams. Send him a PM and he'll hook you up.

whats the year splits for wiring, 76-77 is the glass to plastic fuse, is there another split in the 80s as well?
I would bet the gauges would swap but it may depend on how far apart the years
I just had to figure the pin placement differences
