Dexron Mercon 2, promotes firmer shifts than mercon 3. Mercon 3 is made to provide a smoother shift but induces more slippping to provide it.

    I've got a 465.

For automatics, the red kind, cause for me it usually leaks out so fast it dosn't matter what it is. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

There is no such thing as Mercon 1 2 or 3

There is a Mercon 5 but it's a different fluid.

Dextron on the other hand has 1 2 and 3. Dextron 3 supersedes all previous Dextron fluids.

If you want non friction modified fluid, get type F, although I wouldn't recommend it.

My favorite transmission fluid is 85W-140, as my current 465 is looser than a french whore.

[/ QUOTE ] Excuse me for just typing mercon after I already typed out dextron mercon.
dextron 3 is made to give a smoother softer shift than dextron 2. I prefer a firmer shift.

There is regular old Mercon and Mercon V. No Mercon 2, 3, or 4 though AFAIK.

    Havoline Mercon-Dexron 3

I guess we're just not being clear with each other or not understanding...hehe.

This is a fluid that meets the requirements for Mercon and Dexron.

The gallons at Wal-mart for $10 or so /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif. I don't know, I think the brand is Tech or something like that. It's a dextron III. No problems with it so far.
