I'm really digging Joan Osbourne these days

I've ALWAYS love Mai Yamane. It always surprises me that a (I know this is a bit racist) small Japanese woman can sing in that lower, slightly harsh blues wail that you expect from a stronger white woman in a smoke filled bar room

Does anyone else like the new trend funk/soul/blues music fronted by woman with the lower harsh voices?

I have to get myself a copy of Standing In The Shadows Of Motown

i like all music, i just need to be in the right mood for it.

for that i would need to be in a blues bar in montreal, eating a montreal smoked meat sandwich and drinking...... i dont know kilkenny.
maybe with cigar smoke in the air. then i would be so down with it.

or if someone just played it when i was around eather way

I still compare everyone I hear with Koko Taylor, and her band Earthshaker. I liked her best.

Would you put Alicia keys in this category? I sort of like her.

I'll make sure and check out all the singers you guys mentioned on Musicmatch

Turns out I was a bit off, Yoko Kanno is the composer and musician along with the Seatbelts on all the Cowboy Bebop albums, the vocalist is Mai Yamane.
