Based on the feedback from many of you and meetings between OBH members and
ODF, both here and at the trail, the top section of Firebreak 5 between
Saddle Mountain Road and the Crushers will be CLOSED for the remainder of
the rainy season (probably mid-June). Please spread the word, and honor the
closure even if it "looks" open. Signs will go up this week, but it may be a
little while before the trail will be blocked. The Crushers can still be
accessed by turning up Saddle Mountain and staying left until you reach the
    top of FB5.

For those who don't know, the reason for the closure is extreme erosion
problems on a steep section of clay soil just below a spring. With no rock
subsurface, the ruts have grown to epic proportions making it impassable to
most vehicles, and leaving a major scar.

Seasonal closure is a temporary measure, and we will be working with ODF to
reroute the trail so Firebreak 5 can remain a sustainable, year round 4x4
trail. I will be posting work parties over the summer as we develop a
schedule to complete the necessary trail construction.

Thank you for your efforts with this. I know I certainly appreciate it.

Do you know when they are planning on re-openning it? I was up there and it was still closed along with a section of powerline that used to be pretty fun. Hope they open everything back up again, soon. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
