There was a lot of protest here in Las Vegas by the Hispanic Community over Illegal immigration. On one of the days there was an anti-illegal immigration protest, which only about 30 people showed. One of the people was this guy I know, who has worked for this Hotel & Casino Company for over 7 years. His face was shown all over the local news TV stations. Within a week of his face being on the local news for attending this protest, he was fired from his job when some Hispanic people, who work for the same Hotel & Casino, recognized him on the TV, and complained to their superiors about it. This is what any American that dare openly confess that they are against illegal immigration can expect from now on.

Ah, sounds like a discrimination lawsuit. Might be the only one in history for a white male.

In the "entertainment" industry they are concerned with image (when they want to be) and a protest by a large group may be enough to get someone fired just to avoid the problem. I'm not saying its right, but it is a fact.

If I were to protest certain things loudly, my days at work would be numbered. The same is true for many people.

The guy is only an aquantence to me. I have worked with him a couple times on big projects. I heard about it on the work grapevine. I saw the guy on TV too after some co-workers told me he was on the news. The company accused the guy of braeking an expensive piece of glass on one of the slot machines. He had been written up about 4 or 5 years ago for the same thing, and they used at as reason to terminate him.

Yup... and it surely wouldn't be covered in the news.

What made the news here, the papers (front page), the local nightly news, was 5 workers got fired from a meat packing company in detroit for attending the immigrant protest. The managment specifcally put out a letter before hand saying if your absent this day without a reason, you will be fired. And 5 people were absent, and they were fired. Now all the big libs are sueing trying to shut the company down saying they fired them for standing up for immigrants rights.
No, they fired them because they skipped out on work. If you didn't take a vacation day, or personal day, you can't just not show up for work and not expect consequences.
I've no problems with legal immigrants. We're all decendents of them. It is the make-up of American society. It's the people fleeing across the borders without going thru due-process, and then demanding rights? Give me a break.

Did the guy miss work for this protest? Did he have permission? If not he deserves to be fired, it is your right to protest but do it on your own time, no matter which side you're protesting for. Besides, protesting is for people who don't or can't vote. I express my opinions at the ballot box (and on CK5).

If he did do it on his time he should file a suit though.

they skipped work to attend the protest. They were temp workers from a temp agency. They didn't call in sick, or request vacation. They just didn't show up for work that day.

what a crock.. but im not surprised at all... unfortunately..

it seems to be perfectly ok to illegally come into this country no matter who you are and where youre from.,

but if we were to do the same say in australia or somewhere else, boy we would be in trouble there

doesnt work both ways in my mind

i hope they apss all kinds of restrictions on immigration into this country, just like most other countries have and uphold

america has been totally free for all and it seems it will always be

and i just dont think it should be that way especially with out employment is going and so forth

    each to their own

I got held up Mon. by 4,000 meatheads marching through town here. I just don't get it. I am OK with immigrants, especially the legal ones, but make me sit at a red light for 30 minutes and I sure won't be voting your way.

I mean, am I just an asshole for believing that if you are not a citizen you don't get an opinion on how this country is run? That's what our country is all about, one person one vote, that's how things are decided here.

meh, once again, protestors are asshats no matter what they're protesting.

If these (illegal) immigrants want amnesty so bad and want to be Americans SOOOO bad, why are they carrying Mexican flags instead of American flags during their protests? :dunno:

You shoulda seen the jobsite I was at on Monday. Prolly 30 unfinished homes all told. There was me, another cabinet installer at another house and the supervisor. That's it. Was kinda nice to not have the racket of 5 other generators just houses down the line.
