    Introducing my new tube doors...

First step in making these was to go to OSH and buy about $8.00 worth of PVC and construct what I wanted, a lot cheaper and easier to work with plastic pvc to mock it up.
The next step was to pay a visit to Greg72 and have him fab these tube doors for me... After showing me how the tube bender worked, he even let me bend one of the doors myself. /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

Thanks Greg for bending, notching, and welding the tube doors for me. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

The next step was to go back to OSH again and get some supplies to figure out how to make my own latch to keep the doors closed. I did plenty of headscratching trying to find or design a latch for the doors. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
I drilled the tube doors in a drill press so the holes would be centered, used some 3/8 stock with a spring and a couple washers inside the tube to make it spring loaded, used a die to thread the end of the stock for a ball knob....
I made a spring loaded latch and a striker plate that bolted to the existing striker plate. All ya have to do is pull the ball knob to open the door and then you can slam the door to close, just like normal. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

These tube doors will make it a lot easier to see the bigger curbs and blocks, when wheelin' at the mall. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You finally got rid of those rusted doors of yours.
Did the hinge area on the doors finally let go or what?
Nice job.Is the spring inside the tube for the latch?Got pic's of that part?

Naa, i still got my doors... Yes the hinge area finally let go... I actually cut up another door for that section and welded it in to replace the hinge section in my drivers side door... so i fixed how it was almost falling off. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
I wanted some trail doors though.
I didn't take any pics of the hinge part i made...
Basically i used the 3/8" rod and drilled a 3/8" hole in the tube door.. then i drilled the outside hole larger to fit the spring inside the tube, and welded a washer inside the tube to the rod so it would compress the spring when you pull on the knob, and spring back, and then welded a washer outside onto the tube to contain the spring and rod inside the door and guide the rod. get it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

    **Update**

I now have mirrors for both tube doors and should be California legal. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Got some polished billet tube clamps, and searched around for some mirrors that would work with them.
