    Floor Shifter... who\'s done it?

I want to put a hurst or b&m floor shifter in my 83 jimmy but i have yet to see anybody else thats done it and i want to know what the pro's/cons of it would be. Also what problems might i run into. I know one might just be finding room on floor for it.

I've just bought a B&M light truck Mega Shifter from Summit. Haven't fitted it yet as I've still got the manual trans in and am rebuilding my auto. The kit looks REALLY complete! I've never seen so many brackets and bits. They reckon you can fit them almost anywhere...and I'm inclined to believe them! I don't have a fitment/space problem as I've removed the centre box, fitted recling bucket seats and full harnesses so I can have the shifter close to hand. Otherwise I think you'd have to have it mounted to the left of your t/case shifter. Shouldn't cause a prob tho. It's got a tall base and with spacers and stuff you should be able to mount it within easy reach. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I just put the quicksilver in my 88. I added a 1/2 inch pine board to the base for a little extra height and I also trimmed a little off the base so it would fit a little closer to the xfer case shifter. Pics of it finished are in webshots. I'm a pretty short guy and it fits comfortable for me, no leaning to shift at all.

    Hey Brett,

    [Hijack]

I saw that tranny temp gauge mounted in your dash in your webshots...i had given up on that idea bc i thought it just wasn't possible. Any specifics on how you did it? What guage / any particular problems?

Re: Floor Shifter... who\'s done it?

Well, I had that guage for over a year before installing it. I "think" it was 2 5/8's autometer guage. All I did was took a Die grinder with a abrasive cone pointed stone and started to grind away at the bezel from the outside, It actually melted as it ground. I went through the lens, and the black plastic behind it, Some Wallowing was needed ro make the back of the guage fit in there. The guage is just pushed in there and fits very snug with the silver portion of the dash. There was a rubber band around the guage which when twisted in there will not allow it to slop around and I would have to push it out from the back if I wanted to get it back out. Sorry I can't be very clear, It was a while ago but it was pretty easy to do actually. Hope that helps. Let me know if more questions.

Do you have abnormally long arms or something? Bending over to shift would get real old real quick. I take it that you've got an automatic valvebody?

I have a B@M prostick In my truck. Built a pedistal from some steel to lift it up a couple Inches. I can reach it now. It was in my other truck. It broke the column shift (rotton body flex!) And now, In this one.

Has anyone tried to use a cable from the columm to the auto trans??
I want to eliminate the frame flexing from shifting, without going to a floor shifter.
