i'd leave the motor alone for reliability.

I've got a 454 in my '71 SS Chevelle and I love it. Blows the hell out of a small block. Thinking about putting fuel injection on it.

Does a Pontiac motor count? I love the power of my 400 in my 79 TA.

Pontiac 400 is a big block. I had a 79 T/A. It already had the motor built up when I bought it. Higher compression, big loppy cam, headers,...ect. Nice cars, gotta love them !!!!

Well, there are not big-block/small-block Pontiac motors, they are all big block be design.

I'm getting ready to install a set of headers, cam, and straight pipes on my 79 Bandit. Just some stuff to make it quicker without hurting the value of the car.

Got a '70 Chevy Stepside that's getting a HOT 396 put in it next weekend. It's .060 over with a wicked Comp Cams Cam & roller kit in it along with cleaned up & port matched heads and intake, and lots of other goodies. It pegged the dyno after break in at 578hp(@5500rpm)& 550 ft lbs of torque (@4200rpm) with no extra tuning. This was done on pump gas with a little 104 in it and a single 750 double pumper. The guy who helped build it says we can get it up to 650hp by playing with the cam timing, a better (hotter) recurved distributer (it made it's dyno pull with a stock HEI unit) and by slapping a small (?) demonator on it, or a pair of 660's. I want it streetable, so I'll settle for whatever it can crank out with single carb (850 maybe) on it and the cam retimed for low end torque. I would like to get the torque peak down around 3500 RPM or so. I'm still at least a year from getting it on the road, but I'm already planning on having to replace the rear tires the day after. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

NO CHEVY ENGINES IN PONTIACS! Sorry, I am a Pontiac purist, too....

Got any of them SD blocks lying around you might want to donate to charity (i.e. me?)

Might be getting a 78 454 out of a 3/4 pick up. The guy has it in his back yard sitting on a tire. I already bought the axles from the wrecked truck, hopefully I can get him to come off the motor.

Uhhh, our '38 Farmall F20 (tractor) has a 454 in it and we used to have a '79 GMC K25 on a 1-ton IH frame with a Caddy 500 in it, but I somehow don't think these are normal /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Don't have it anymore, but I had a 68 chevelle SS clone that I stuffed a 454 into. I wish I still had it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
