[/ QUOTE ] That's a good thing. You know if GM did build a 2004 it would be front wheel drive and a 4cly.

If I was gonna spend bank on a new speedy car, I'd rather get the V10 viper (cheap at only $83,999). Beat the GT in the 1/4 mile in a head to head race (car and driver?) though the GT had a faster 0-60. 60-to-0 braking distance on the viper was ungodly short.... shorter than my K5 could do 30 to 0 I bet. lol! it was like 98 feet or something. pretty amazing car.

Yeah, it's hard to beat the Viper when you factor in the performance/dollar thing!! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif However, I must say that the Ford GT is by far the better looking car, and will probably have better handling characteristics due to the mid-engine configuration. Where did you find that article?

i saw it in the mag when I was at a doctors office... no idea which months it was but the GT and Viper are big on the cover. The big selling point is the whole write-up they do on a head to head match up of the two cars. In the 1/4 mile it was VERY close... forget what the viper won by but it wasnt much at all. Basically the GT could get up to 60, 70, 80 hella fast but once speeds got a bit higher the 500 cubes of the viper started to show and it managed to eek out a narrow win.

What I'm thinkin' though, is what if you took a V10 Viper for $83,000... and spent $40,000 on making the engine ungoldy kick azz. The result would still be cheaper than the GT and theres no question it would smoke it at any distance or speed...

the GT is a very sexy car, I like it a lot.... but there is something about 500 cubes, 500+ ft lbs and 500+ HP in a dodge that just "does it" for me... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'll agree about 500 cubes! There is nothing like the feel of all that engine. I was a valet for about a year and a half in down town denver and had the opportunity to drive a couple of vipers. Rolling a 15 mph in first gear, all it required was a little gas to light the tires up. No clutch necessary! Comparing the Viper to the 911 Twin Turbo's is like comparing a .50 Cal High power rifle to a .22 I'll take the Viper in a heart beat! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

yeah, 1st gear in a viper is no joke, you can break 60 mph in 1st. I think thats especially funny since I need OD to break 60. lol!!!!!

I've got the other problem. My tires are too large for the stock gears (3.08's /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) If I was doing 60 in OD, I'd be around 900 rpm. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Got some 1 ton axles with 4.10's sitting in my garage waiting for that day when I have a little free time. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Descovery Channel (or was it The Learning Channel? - I forget) had a program a few weeks ago showing how this came about, through the entire design process. It was really neat! So is the car!! /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif

All the Ford GT's are sold. They were of course selling for way over the MSRP. 1/2 the cars were allocated to Ford Executives and VIPs. I guess Jay Leno is getting one too! It is a very nice looking car, but as others mentioned, $ for $, the Viper is a much better deal!
