ford made a 283 right!?

    we got a 283 in peices sitting in the garage i think my dad said was from a 64 ford fairlane wagon..??

    ok that must be it then....cuause GM made a 283 i think..cause my dads impala has one...

    ford NEVER made a 283.. its probably a 289... scrap it.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif or put it in an s-10 lol /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

    i was thinking about putting it back together actually..my dad said something about an idea of putting it in some old ford pickup he had in his younger days for gas milage reasons but never did it..

    1964 would be a 260. Ford stopped using that engine in 1965 when the 289 came about. The bell housing bolt pattern on that engine only uses 5 bolts unlike late 1965 and newer engines being a 6 bolt.

    Look on the passenger side of the engine near where the starter would be and you will find something like C4OE or something to that effect. The C designates 1960's, the next number is the exact year. If it has a DXXX then it is from the 1970's, an EXXX is the 1980's, and so on. But the dead give away is either 5 bolt or 6 bolt bell housing pattern. 5 bolt is mid 1965 and earlier, 6 is late 1965 and later.
