well if the knob goes L-1-2-3----R, then you have the sm465 in that truck, it might even be backed up by a np205 t-case, sounds like a good one, yea the swap is possibly, might be a pain in the ass, but it would work. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
the axles will bolt right up.

My 81 Jimmy was a factory 4 speed truck. 32 spline 465 backed by a NP208 with slip yoke. 12 bolt rear and 10 bolt front.

I chucked it all and went with a 465/205 combo and one ton diffs.

I looked at it and it has a 205 case and 12 bolt rear and d44 front 3.73 ratio .But the shifter and ball are gone .Is there an other way to identify the tranny? Its a complete truck with descent 33s and a rescently rebuilt 350 with a bad rod but the drivetrain and frame are clean .The guy wants $ 250 for it I just want to make sure I could use these parts before I buy it....... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

From under neath: near the bellhousing there should be two PTO plates, one on each side near the bottom of the tranny. It should be cast iron.

I'd guess someone swapped the tranny and T-case in as the 205 wasn't available in 81 (K5's)

If it's the stock 81 tranny, especially if you have the NP205 behind it, it's the SM465.
