I am wondering what the fourth guage would be in my surburban's dash. It on the lower left side of the four small guages in the cluster. It an 83 4x4 chevy surburban,350-700r4-208 and ten bolts. was it a tranny cooler guage, clock what? where would iget the matching guage? is there a tranny cooler guage that works there that looks like the rest?
thanks for the help guys. just bought the surburban to use for a tow vehicle/daily driver.

The fourth spot is for a fuel gauge in the dash's that got Tachometers. The Tach would go where the large fuel guage is now.

if you dotn have a tach it is a clock or a brake light for your parking brake. the only time i have ever seen one of the lights work is when you start the truck.
    that is the only time

I have never heard of an 80s full size truck with a factory tach. Could be wrong though? does anyone have a factory tach on an 80's K5? LMC does not sell them either, they sell them for earlier years however. That spot is for a small clock, I got one at the junk yard and it popped right in.

my 84 silverado has a clock in that space also.
i would love to find a factory tach that would fit in my fuel guage area.
then , i would take the clock out and put a fuel guage in.

Yes the 80's came with a factory tach. There was one on ebay that went for 220+ a month ago. My buddy has a 80' k10 with a factory tach. They are just hard to find.

When I said 80's, I meant the 80's era, like 80 thru 87 or what ever. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I have looked for info and never found a factory tach. I'f memory serves me 80 was still the old body style truck ( which I do believe had the option of a tach) I'm gonna go check that post that had all the dealer brochures for K5's, let you know what I find.

From looking at the archive of old sales brocures It appears when they changed the body style and interior in 81 that a tachometer was no longer an option.

There are a few people that have/had purchased the 81-up trucks with tachs. The '85 I just took apart with manual trans did not have one.

If the gauge face is different between '80 and 81-91 (minus the trip odo that started in about '88) I can guarantee you they made them '81-up, as my dad has a tach in his truck that matches the 81-up speedo numbers/colors exactly.

Here's another way to fill the '4th' hole.. (as well as the other 3 and the big 2!!) A tad pricey, but purty!
