I broke the piece of frame off on my 85 jimmy were the transfer case crossmember bolts to the frame on the passenger side. Has anyone else had this problem? Were else should I be looking for cracks beside the steering box? thank you

Thats mostly caused from bashing the cross member into a lot of rocks. Most Blazers/Jimmys just crack at the gear box.

Check around the rear shock mounts, the front body mounts, the t-case (you already did), and the firewall body mounts. when you go to repair the frame, make sure you get a piece of slightly larger channel, and box the frame on both sides of the crossmember.

Or could have from the bolts being loose. I would check/tighten every bolt on your Jimmy. As they get older alot of the bolts start to come loose. The dont get rusted tight here in AZ.

Those crossmember bolts will rust here - 3 of mine were rusted down to nothing and snapped, with the 4th pretty close to failure.

I took it to the guys at FST, Flyin' Highs fab shop and the welded a new plate over the area and up the side of the frame. It looks stout, so I'm not that worried about it, should I be?

If FST did it, you have nothing to fear - those guys are awesome!

I think it broke partially from bashing it on rock, and its been wrecked and the frame tweeked. The frame was straightened and everything was okay until on day when I was camping and I found that my transmission was hanging half way out of my truck 70 miles from home. It was my first real trail fix and I got home so I was pleased. On the piece of frame that cracked of I could see where it had cracked in the past and where it broke off that day.

thats the problem with my blazer. it started out in WA, then moved to OR, then i had it in CA for almost 3 years, now it is in AZ. she has a bit of rust. not much for where it has been though.

oh yeah, do check your rear shock mounting points at the frame. i dont have any shocks cus i didnt. the drivers broke out of the bracket and the pass elongated the hole from not having good bushings on the bolts.

1974 Chevy Blazer Cheyanne. but it is on 33's now, with saggy old springs. i am in Yuma Arizona if ya got any parts for me.
