I picked up some parts for my transmission from a member here on CK5 for $33, I wrote him a check and dropped it in the mail and a few days later I got his package with the parts but he never got my check. We waited for a while but still didn't see any sign of the check so I told him not to worry. I put a stop payment on the first check and wrote another one and sent that one out.
We are waiting for the second one to arrive at his house but in the mean time I was checking my balance in my account and noticed a $25 fee for the stop payment!
When I was putting the stop payment on the first check they said it varied so I didn't worry, I figured a couple dollars (probably based on a percentage of the check's value) but gosh $25 for a $33 check! I don't know how they sleep at night sometimes.
I'm going down there on Tuesday after the holiday and am going to give them a piece of my mind. Their website never said how much it was going to be and then they go and do this! I'm sure they don't have to change it but they have done crap like this in the past and every time I go in they always change it once they see I'm not messing around.

    Can you guys believe that?

I would have been better off taking my chances that someone wouldn't try to cash the first check (tons of work for a $33 check and not worth doing at a cash and go place because of the fees so they would go to their bank but again, it wouldn't be worth it). Grrrrr.

Exactly, it's not that it's a lot of money but it's the idea of doing that to me. I am going to go down there and make them take it off because that is insane! Man, $25 for a $33 check.

Doubt they will take it off if it is their policy. Next time read the fine print and listen up when you open an account. They charge $25 so that people don't go around writing checks left and right then focking people over with a simple check cancellation.

That really sucks guy. One thing I always do though is to buy all mail items using either pay pal, when it's possible, or buying a money norder.

Yeah I guess so. I am still going to go chat with them and see what can be done. In person they are pretty wishy washy believe it or not. Over the phone they are always standing by what they do but when you show up to have a little chat about it the normally just fix whatever you want to keep you happy. Oh btw it's Wells Fargo.

True but we have been with them for over 10 years and have never had a $25 fee for putting a stop payment on a check. :dunno:

I'm guessing that the "we" means his family.

Yeah I mean my family as far as the checking account but I have had a savings account tied in with them since I was about 7 or so.

The most ironic thing about that is the stop payment is only good for 6 months, if you don't believe me ask the bank tomorrow when you go see them.

Most checks unless otherwise stated on the check are good for 1 year. All anyone needs to do though is wash the date and put a current date and cash it.

Yeah I know but it was a couple days after we had finished the deal and his was on the way so I thought a check would be fastest to get to him. Stupid, I should have used a MO or PayPal like I do for everything else.

lol, no I wasn't, I had enough in the account to cover $33. :haha:

Although now that it has drawn on for so long I do need to go pick up my check from work and get it deposited.
