Just thought I'd share this...................Today at work, a co-worker asked me to look at his K10 because of a shake at idle. With out no tools or anything and with a slapping sound coming from the timing cover area, I said it could be a sloppy timing chain. Well...........we finished the day and looked at it again. He was kinda 'fraid to drive it home (about 7 miles) so I said I'll follow him. About half way, parts started to fall out from under his truck, I even had to dodge a couple. He pulled over and lifted the hood.........WTF!!! I never seen anything like it!......The harmanic balancer fell off! Taking the belts with it. Seems the single bolt broke and the vibe he was getting was a loose balancer. The thing(balancer) is shot and a piece of the bolt is still in the crank!

    Amazing!

WOW!!! [IMG] BTW, is it repairable? Can a new balancer be thrown back on if the damage is not too great?

The hard part is getting the bolt out! Balancer is toast, but everything else is O.K. including the timing chain cover.

The kicker was, he drove it about 100 yards to get it to a pull-off on the highway and the thing ran and smooth! Gotta love them small blocks!
