From 208 to 205

    For those of you that have swaped out your 208 for a 205 t-case, were you able to keep your 208 shifter or did you have to use the shifter and linkage from a 205.

    I haven't done that particular swap, but I think that you'll need the shifter from the 205. The shifter on a 208 bolts to the floor and has linkage to the case. The shifter on a 205 bolts directly to the side of the case and just sticks up through a hole in the floor.

    That and the NP 205 has a totally different shift pattern. I'm not even sure of the pattern, but my friend's '79 F150 has a 205, so I remember it's different. I believe with a 205 you push forward to put it in 4wd.

    NP 208 is:
    2 HI
    4 HI
    N
    4 LO

    The thing won't let me move them over, but pretend that neutral and 4 low are moved over to the right a little, because you've got to push it over a little to get to those two.

    i would advise a twin stick shifter for your 205 anyway. better controll of your rig in a tight situation.... : )

    1974 Chevy Blazer Cheyanne. lots of plans for it....
    but it is on 33's now, with saggy old springs. i am in so cali if ya got any parts for me.
