What kind of off roading? What kind of 44s are you planning on using?

It won't just spontaneously explode, but if you do even moderate fourwheeling than you run a good risk of breaking something (probably a shaft or u-joint). Also, the hub bearings and brakes would take a beating with the 44's and require more maintenance.

I have 39.5 boggers on a open dana44 and within 4 trips, I stretched the ears on the long inner shaft, and broke the ears on two stub shafts. And that was taking it easy. I would not do it.

It'll be alright as long as you don't turn with the hubs locked while in 4wd. You can easily smoke a universal or bend some ears with 40s while going straight. While turning something is guaranteed to get splattered all over the woods. 4" more tire doesn't sound like much but it is.

Hey, that's the exact combo I'm planning on running... even the 4.88 gears. What can I do to keep the D44 alive? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: FRONT 10 BOLT WITH 44\'S

my buddy had 44" TSL's on a 10bolt front. It was mainly a DD, he broke a shaft at the beach and his R&P muding, finally switched to a D60, and his steering shaft broke, he blew his engine b/c something was off after he rebuilt it and its a paper weight now. haha. (last two did not occur because of 44's on a 10bolt, only because his truck was a POS)

not much you can do you could run the warn chromolly shafts but after paying for all the upgrades to make it hold up you could just buy a dana 60 and do it right the first time /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

first off, run 5.13's 4.88's are a waste.

the way to make your D44 live is to put it in the garage, and swap a D60 under your rig.
