i've got a 72 jimmy with a dana44 up front and sometimes when i go through some spots on the trail that would be stressfull on the truck,i hear a moan come from the front axle.it does fine the rest of the time but i'm just wondering if this is the start of a problem. anyone know what this is?

Every time my front axle u-joints go bad I get a creaking/groaning from the front end while on the trail. It sounds like yours may be on the way out.

If it isn't your wheel bearings, check your carrier bearings. They like to moan when they are shot.

    AFAIK K5's don't have a carrier bearing.
    At least mine doesn't.
