I was taking apart my front hubs on my Suburban and I noticed there was no spring behind the locking mechanism. It's a '90 3/4 ton with a 10 bolt front. I couldn't find anything in my Haynes manual, it stopped at '87.
    My questions are:

Are the stock locking hubs supposed to have springs in there?

What are the torque specs for the bearings?

What is the procedure for torqing them?

    Thanks

If you have one of those auto locking hubs, I have no idea. But if it's a manual locking hub, then yes, there is supposed to be a spring in there somewhere.

You have a large spring, not removable and a smallerone in the cover.

I screw the nut always firmly on and open it then around a ¼ turn. Thereafter the wheel should be able to turn itself freely and should have no lateral play. The examination goes more easily if you press back the pistons of your brake caliper before.

In any case, use for the nut a special tool. Screwdrivers, chisels and hammer destroy them.
