I'm going to cut my fender up front because I figure get rid of it now before I put a dent it in or rub a tire (have to some anyhow for the bushwacker flares)... anyhow if I cut out the front side marker light will I be cop bait? Is it illegal to not them? If I gotta keep em I will sawzall right underneath it... but if I can lose them and be ok that'd be what I want... anyone know? Thanks... [IMG]

According to DOT, they are supposed to be there, but I wouldn't expect any cops to care - mine have been out for ages, and I've never been stopped. If you wanted, you could add a set of aftermarket lights up higher, or a set of 73-77 Ford lights (they'd only require a 1" hole to clear the wiring harness and bulb housing)

You will probably be OK... as long as you dont come up here. The Military Police here on base have a thing for lifted K5s, especially the ones without mudflaps![IMG]

CVC 25100 states that every vehicle over 80 inches in overall width shall be equipped during darkness as follows
    (2) At least one amber side-marker lamp on each side near the front and at least one red side-marker lamp on each side near the rear.
If you want to push your luck, go ahead and take them off, but this gives the police probable cause to pull you over and give you a fix it ticket for it. And if someone wants to say how many cops actually know this, I would bet a truckload. The CA Vehicle Code gives cops probable cause to pull over anyone and the chances of a majority of vehicles in this state that are not in violation are slim and none.

I don't know how closely you looked, but if you cut out the marker light you'll be cutting through the rad support up front. I cut the front of my fenders flush with the bottom of the rad support and I still have a few inches before I'd be close to the marker light.

    Hey Steph,
Yes they are required by the vehical code book. But the chance of getting pulled over for that one thing is unlikley.
But I do know that the Citrus Heights and Placer county enforce the code due to all the ricers running around with after market side markers that are illegal, unless running yellow or amber lights on the side.

    If you cant go over it...GO THROUGH IT !!! <a target="_blank" href=http://www.CaliforniaK5Krawlers.com>www.CaliforniaK5Krawlers.com</a>

If you do need them you could adapt the vertical side markers found on the 73-80 models to fit. That way it would still be Chevy parts and not aftermarket.

By the letter of the law, you do need them. You can chance running without them, as some people do and never get pulled over (but usually get bagged during yearly vehicle inspections if their state has them). Also some people never get pulled over and they have vehicles that shouldn't even be close to being on the road, but for some people like me (if your luck is anything like mine), you get pulled over for the stupidest things (mudflaps not low enough, dim tail-lights, etc.).

So it's up to you as to how lucky you feel.

If you got the BUshwacker cut-out flares, they have grooves in the front flares designed to "swallow" part of the marker light while still leaving the bulb and lense in tact. If you trim so far as to eliminate the marker light, I believe you would be trimming too far for the flares to even attach.

Only problem I have with my fenders is the back sides. I haven't even come close to the front part of the fender.
