Could be a bad locking hub...

thanks rene - how would i know that it is a bad locking hub so that it would only work in reverse and not forward?

Don't thank me yet...I'm making a guess. my hubs sometimes hang up when they need servicing but I've never had them work one way but not the other. What type of hubs do you have?

To check your hubs lock them both, t-case in 2HI and the rear tires blocked. Now turn the front driveshaft by hand. It should not turn either direction if the hubs are working correctly. If it turns at all in either direction there is a problem with your hubs. Check them in the unlocked position too...with either hub unlocked the driveshaft should turn freely (unless you have a front locker)
