Yes Jorge you're right. A diesel will get between 20-24 Mpg. A turbo from banks will get you even better milage than that. They are exspensive though...

I might have to check that out. My 84 6.2 isn't running in perfect tune since the emissions stuff is not working, but I sure as heck am getting better than 12 mpg. I'd cross check that info. That sounds a little info. I'll look into it myself.

My blazer has never done worse than 15 in town or on the freeway. With 3.08s I got 15 in town and 22 on the freeway. Now with 4.56s I get 17 in town and 17-18 on the freeway. I don't have a turbo but a turbo would only make your milege better.

3.08 was the axle ratio the came stock on my blazer. These are good freeway gears if you like to go 75 miles per hour or faster. With 3.08s you have almost no power to tow. 4.56 gears are what were in the second set of axles I had in my blazer. They are good for towing but unless you have big tires or an overdrive you can't go very fast on the freeway. You use more fuel on the freeway with 4.56 gears due to the higher rpms.

When I first got my 6.2, I was usually right around 20 mpg, w/31's and 3.73s. Best ever was 27 mpg, w/ 35's and 4.56s. By the time I pulled the motor, it was down to 14 mpg. When I put the 350 in, I got 11-12 in town. Didn't check it much on the highway, I did check it coming back from Moab once, about 16 mpg. All these #'s are with 35's and 4.56s (except the first one).

For comparison, the Dodge usually gets about 19 mpg, best was 21, worst was 17. I should note that I drive it more aggresively than I did the 6.2.

My '82 with 3.08 gears and 33's got 17 mpg with a badly slipping clutch. With the new clutch i cruise at 75 mph and get about 20-22 mpg. The emissions stuff NewK5Guy was referring to was the egr and epr systems. They basically reburn some of the exhaust gasses. Just unhook em and plug the vacuum lines. They will not lose you power, nor will they gain much power ( a little maybe ). The smoke level will go down when these are unhooked which is why people do it. I hope this helps.

  9. I also get 14 mpg with 3.73 and 35's. It is hard to check not because the speedo is off. Then I got it with 31's I believe I got 18 to 20.

Well,my K5 has all stock from factory, what is the original gear from factory?I need the Blazer for pull from a car trailer (2 ton about with a car onto him),so i hope is not necessary for a car with a v8 diesel, with this power and this torque,to change the gears,no?
Here a Nissan Patrol with a 2.8 diesel engine is enough to pull from this trailer,i hope don,t have troubles with the blazer.
    what is your opinion?

Somewhere on your truck you'll find a sticker that lists the production option codes. There should be a code that starts with "G". This number is the code for your axle ratio.

    GU4- 3.08
    GU6- 3.42
    GT4- 3.73
    GT5- 4.10

You might find a G80 as well. This means your rear axle is equipped with a limited-slip positrac setup.

Hope this make things a little clearer...............

    Re: GEAR RATIO

The information that Gale Banks posts is taken from a suburban while towing a load. That accounts for the lower numbers. I get about 15 mpg with 4.10s and 35" BFGs.
